THE MOMENTARY PAUSE -
Photography and Insights by Ann Cameron Siegal
“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order”
John Burroughs
Natural Light
The best way to see how light affects your photos is to take a picture of the same scene at different times of the day. Dawn, noon, and dusk will give you completely different results and feelings. This photo was taken at pre-dawn, when the almost-risen sun just skimmed the top of the gentle waves.
Wildlife
Respect is the key to getting good wildlife photos. Respect its space and keep your distance. If wildlife changes behavior when you are around, you are too close. Back off, observe quietly, and let wildlife be wild – no baiting or enticing it closer. Let your telephoto lens do the work for you.
Different Eyes
Depending on experience and passions, you and your viewer may find different aspects of a photo that speak to you. My daughter, a geology student, sees layers of time in this Grand Canyon photo, while I, whose imagination runs wild, see a gorilla head and a woman holding two babies on the left.

Sunrise/Sunset
The solace of savoring the last light of day never gets old. Cherish each moment where your deepest thoughts can percolate.
Humor in Nature
I call this one “Gossip” because it reminds me of so many human conversations.
